The Auckland City Works Depot was purpose built and designed by Ewen Wainscott for the Auckland City Council opening in 1968.  The Ewen Wainscott designs and surrounds were strong, modern, clean and simple in form and were very well received by the New Zealand Institute of Architects. The NZIA awarded the City Works Depot prestigious awards in 1969 and 1970.
