Mark Kessner

Director, Electrical Engineer & Specialist Lighting Design

HNC Electrical Engineering (UK)

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
— Henry David Thoreau

“I started out as an apprentice electrician in England in 1978, progressed through to the design office and then on to consulting engineering in the boom of London in the 80’s. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world, working in many countries and on many international projects as an electrical engineer and specialist lighting designer. True Green design is now my passion, and all of our projects now have a true green focus, even when it’s not a specific directive of the brief.”

Mark has over 30 years of design and project management experience, extending through every aspect of the building services field. With an emphasis on the Commercial, Public and Health Sectors as well as Specialist Lighting, his passion is for innovative, cost-effective, conceptual design, project delivery and completion.

His key projects have received numerous awards, including NZIA recognition across multiple buildings, from “The Centre” at Franklin, The Geyser Building, ANZ Viaduct Event Centre, Christchurch Botanic Gardens and the highly acclaimed Len Lye Art Gallery in New Plymouth, that is already being recognised on the world stage.

Mark has given several presentations on Green Building topics and project case studies at national and international conferences, and is currently lecturing at Unitec for the Architectural Graduate programme. He is a member of the NZGBC Lighting Points sub-committee, and is working jointly with Electricity Commission as part of the ‘Right Light’ consortium, developing lighting energy efficiency initiatives for New Zealand.
